Dear Tichenor Clinic Community,
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Kathryn Miles as the next Executive Director of Tichenor Clinic for Children succeeding Lori DeLaney who has served in the position for 27 years. Kathryn is the current Executive Director of Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS), where during her 8.5-year tenure she oversaw daily operations and a team of 85 staff and interns while almost doubling program revenue, strengthening community partnerships, and building organizational capacity.
Kathryn joins Tichenor Clinic with over 20 years of nonprofit management experience. Prior to joining JFCS, she served in communications and business administration roles at SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. While there, she increased efficiencies in project management, led multidisciplinary merger teams, and developed a comprehensive internal communication governance structure and systems.
Kathryn also brings her passion and experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities. As Vice President of Family Support & Advocacy at the Charles River Center in Needham, Massachusetts, she supervised case management of over 200 families, developed and managed a $1 million budget and $600,000 in state contracts, and successfully secured state licensing. She began her tenure at the Charles River Center as a Program Coordinator, quickly moving on to serve as Associate Director of Family Support before being promoted to Vice President.
Many of you may already know Kathryn, who is a Southern California native and California State University, Long Beach alumna. She is a graduate of Leadership Long Beach, Vice President of the Board of End Abuse Long Beach, and member of National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW). In addition to her B.A. in Child Development & Family Studies, Kathryn also holds a Masters of Business Administration from The Heller School of Social Policy and Management from Brandeis University.
In 2019, Kathryn was awarded the NCJW Hannah G. Solomon Award for her work to improve the quality of life and equality of opportunity for all and in 2016, the 70th Assembly District’s Woman of Distinction Award for her significant contributions to the community.
We are delighted to have found a compassionate and skilled leader to succeed Lori DeLaney and guide us as we continue to serve families amidst these challenging times. Kathryn shares:

“I am thrilled to be joining Tichenor Clinic for Children as the new executive director. I am passionate about the mission of the organization and the critical services that are provided to children and their families. The organization has such a rich history in Long Beach and its impact has been profound. Lori DeLaney is leaving big shoes to fill and I am honored to be chosen as the next leader.”
I would like to sincerely thank our Search Committee comprised of current and past board members: Chair Judith Murphy, Michele Dobson, Alan Puzarne, and Jean Bixby Smith, as well as our search consultant, Anne Laguzza of The Works Consulting, for their dedication during this process.
Kathryn’s appointment is effective October 4, 2021. We look forward to you all meeting and getting to know her at future events – stay tuned!
On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, yours in partnership,
Lisa Carrick
