Javier (Javi) came to us at 3 years old. Due to his type of cerebral palsy, balance and coordination are challenging. He also has an intellectual disability and is non-verbal. His mother Susana was unable to access services for him everywhere she tried. Then she found Tichenor Clinic.
"It was the first time I heard, "Yes. We can help.""
In addition to physical and occupational therapy, Javi started swim lessons but was terrified. He cried through his sessions for months but Susana and his swim instructor Sarah saw incremental progress.
Today, 9-year-old Javi is visibly excited to go in the pool. His involuntarily movements still make it difficult for him to walk, but in the pool he exudes pure joy. He's learning water safety and just reached a huge milestone: floating independently!
Today, Susana dropped off lunch for the Tichenor Clinic staff. She told us: "If Javi could do things for himself, I know he would want to do something to thank you. If he could speak, I know he would say thank you for all the love."
From all of us at Tichenor Clinic for Children, thank you for your continued support. It enables us to love!
