Hi, Irit! Can you tell us how you first heard about Tichenor Clinic for Children and when you started volunteering?
I first heard about Tichenor through my grandfather, Dr. Mark Hoffer, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon who worked with the children at Tichenor. I was able to begin volunteering last summer and would love to continue volunteering throughout high school with extra hours each summer.
What is something about Tichenor that you didn’t know until you started working with us?
I never knew that Tichenor had water therapy, swim lessons, and a playground in the back! There are so many opportunities for children.
What is your favorite aspect of volunteering?
My favorite aspect of volunteering is working with the kids and learning from the therapists. It’s incredibly interesting.
What field or career do you hope to pursue?
I hope to one day become an orthopedic surgeon!
Do you have a memorable moment or story from your time at Tichenor?
My favorite Tichenor moments are the times spent at the holiday drive-thrus. It’s so fun to see the whole community together and Mayra Jimenez [Director of Administration & Family Services] works so hard to make everything perfect for everyone.
What do you like to do when not at school or volunteering?
When I am not at school, I am usually playing tennis. I am a varsity player at Wilson High School. And I have a rigorous academic schedule, too. Plus I love spending time with friends.
Anything else you would like to share?
I am studying Spanish and I look forward to being able to practice my new language skills with so many staff at Tichenor who are lucky enough to be fluent already!
Thank you, Irit! We’re so thankful for all the time you dedicate to support the Tichenor team and families!
Thank you for the opportunity!
