Owen first started coming to Tichenor Clinic when he was six weeks old. A family pediatrician referred them to Tichenor Clinic after noticing that he had a foot deformity and his neck had an extreme tilt.
Owen had pretty severe ‘torticollis’, meaning his neck range of motion and flexibility was limited.
Low muscle tone creates weakness throughout the body, dealing with both of these issues was part of the challenges.

“From where Owen started, to where he is now, which is pretty much looking like a normal kid, I think that if we weren’t here that would have never happened. I think the love and care we received here has made all the difference. Even though Owen has challenges and probably in his future he’ll have more, for this period of time we are doing really well. We owe it all to here, to Tichenor and the therapists we worked with.” – Tiffany (Owen’s mom)
Karsti, the physical therapist who worked closely with Owen, felt that his situation was reflective of a lot of the patients the clinic sees. Patients will get referred for one issue and as the therapists work with them, they realize that there are other underlying issues.
His mother Tiffany says with their insurance they could be waiting three months just to get in for an initial visit with a doctor. With Owen, like many other children, the sooner they get in to see someone the better the prognosis will be at the end.
“A great success is always when you help the family feel empowered and that they can make a really positive change with simple things they can do at home, that has really shown through Owen.” – Karsti Schelin
