When Patty was three years old her mother noticed that she walked on her toes on her right foot. She went with her father to orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Stegeman at Tichenor Clinic, who assessed Patty and ultimately performed her surgery.
“I’m pretty convinced that I wouldn’t be walking today without Tichenor.”
Within a month she was already in her first cast and Patty would continue to receive care at the clinic until she was eighteen years old.
“I started [at Tichenor] so young, that I think it helped in the formation of the teacher I am today, that I’m accepting of my students differences and they know they can come in here and they are not going to get judged. I really think Tichenor helped to form me as being such an accepting type of person. I’m just so grateful for having that experience.”

Patty has now been a teacher at Wilson High School in Long Beach for over 32 years!
