worked for 45 years in pediatric gastroenterology. He earned his Medical degree at the University of California, Los Angeles.  He served in the military as a research investigator at the US Army Medical Center Research Institute, in the Infectious Disease Unit, Bethesda, Maryland.  He completed a Pediatric Gastrointestinal Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston.  He was an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota.  He taught for 40 years at the University of California, Irvine.  He was the Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology/Nutrition at Miller Children’s Hospital and of the Gastroenterology Laboratory at Memorial Medical Center, Long Beach, California for 36 years.  He also was a consulting physician on the Pediatric Subspecialty Faculty, Children’s Hospital of Orange County.  He has been a member of numerous societies, received many honors, served on many committees, conducted research and published numerous professional articles.  Richard retired in December 2018.​
